Indian Wisdom
“You have to tie the cat on the first night”
Sitting down to write this post my first thought was, “We don’t share enough as a society”, but then I paused because really, today, we overshare and with the internet, smart phones and endless social media tools available we do just that. What I should say is that we don’t take the time to just talk to random people, learn there stories and share a little about ourselves.
I was chatting with a friend of mine recently. Normally our talks are about technology, that’s our comfort zone, but this time I opened up and shared with him what I was doing with this other love of mine, ‘As de Old People Would Say’. He agreed with me on how important it was to embrace our cultures and to document it for younger generations. Then he shared with me an Indian proverb that was told to him as a young man about to get married. He gave me a second to think about its meaning and when I got it, we laughed and laughed and laughed. I wish I had known this 10 years ago, I would have tied my own cat!
